Maher is a young man who has suffered greatly and continues to endure unimaginable hardships. He lives in a very poor and modest home. He has lost his right limb, has only one kidney, and has a colostomy (an opening in the abdomen for waste elimination). He now suffers from a congenital urethral stricture resulting from a war injury, along with issues of urinary and fecal incontinence, and he urgently needs surgical intervention.
