Samira’s family of six lives in a crumbling house after returning from the Arsal camps. There are no doors to shield them, no windows to keep out the cold—only pieces of fabric and plastic covering the openings in a fragile attempt to survive the winter’s bite. The home is almost bare, and the family has no source of income. Most of its members suffer from illnesses and disabilities: Samira’s two daughters are unable to speak, one of her sons has a severe intellectual disability, and the other struggles with mental illness and schizophrenia. Only the youngest, a ten-year-old boy, can communicate and care for them despite his tender age. Exhausted and destitute, this family is in desperate need of support to secure food and basic necessities—and to bring a glimmer of warmth and safety back into their dark, fragile home.
