Karam is a student determined to complete her university education. Her father was detained in the 1980s and, after 12 years, was released having lost sight in one eye. He lost his printing business and was displaced to Jordan, where he now has no job and no income. Her mother works alone preparing homemade preserves to support a household of 13. Her siblings are still young, and her father’s health remains fragile. Karam’s education is her family’s only real hope.
