How many Syrian families are put to bed by nightfall with nothing to carry with them into sleep but waiting—and one small dream… a loaf of bread! And how many bakeries have been worn down by years of war, now on their last breath, with dilapidated equipment struggling to keep going and too little capacity to meet the needs of an entire village..
Bread—the most basic of human rights—has become a dream for families.
That is why the "Loaf of Bread" campaign was launched: to bring life back to Sinjar’s main bakery, which has long been the source of bread for hundreds of families. We are working to fully rehabilitate it—from equipping the fire chamber, to restoring the building, to insulating the roof—so the town’s bakery can operate again and bread can return to people’s tables.
