Mohammad was born through a difficult delivery that led to brain injury caused by lack of oxygen, and his struggle began from his very first moments in life. He was transferred to Turkey for treatment, and after a long ordeal he returned to his family with a difficult diagnosis: spastic cerebral palsy. Today, Mohammad depends on regular medication to prevent his condition from worsening. Seizures never leave him, and any interruption in his medication brings the attacks back with severity. His need for treatment is continuous and cannot be delayed, while the family struggles to keep up with the costs. His father works as a daily laborer, some days he finds work, and many days he returns without wages, under modest financial circumstances that barely cover the essentials of life. With the ongoing need for medication, the family has been forced to borrow money to provide treatment for their child. Thus, Mohammad’s childhood passes between seizures awaiting medication and a family fighting poverty to keep hope alive in the heart of a small child exhausted by illness.
