Rama Will Not Lose the School Year!

Rama Will Not Lose the School Year!

15 October 2022

Everyone who knows Rama notices her smiley face and her curious eyes. Rama spends her time reading, playing with her younger brothers, and remembering her deceased father, who was martyred in Syria when she was six years old. Since then, Rama has moved with her mother and her brothers to live in a one-room home in Jordan.

In their new life as refugees, Rama's mother has been barely able to secure living expenses for her children. Things have gotten better for the family after we arranged for the sponsorship of Rama and her brothers Khaled and Hamza ($ 50 per month per child). In their one-room home in Jordan, Rama grew up and reached the eighth grade at school. Recently, following the closure of schools because of COVID-19, Rama has not been able to pursue her education online like her peers, as she does not own an electronic device that would enable her to access the school’s online platform. Therefore, her friends started sending her lessons, and teachers collaborated with her to communicate the important lessons and find temporary solutions, but with the approach of the final exams, Rama was at risk of losing the semester if she does not gain access to a computer!

Rama has never been a demanding child. She has big dreams and she is diligent in her studies, and this is the first time that she asked for something that she really needed. This is why we contacted her sponsor and informed him of the issue she was facing and the cost of the solution. We also contacted her brother's sponsor, in an attempt to secure the full needed amount ($355). To our pleasant surprise, both sponsors responded and donated the full amount, and a laptop was purchased for Rama!

Undoubtedly, there are countless Syrian children like Rama, but whose needs remain unheard. On the other hand, this is not the first time that we communicate the needs of an orphaned child and their sponsor responds rapidly and expresses willingness to help, whether the child needs assistance for school supplies, treatment expenses, clothing, home supplies, etc.

We feel tremendously grateful for the generosity shown by these sponsors. We also sadly emphasize that a large portion of Syrian children have become orphans. Satisfying their basic needs and lending them a hand of help is a path that will lead to a brighter future and will prevent the creation of a lost generation.
