FAQs: Until the Last Tent Campaign

Is Molham Team collecting donations within the #UntilTheLastTent campaign for homes that were already built? If so, why were they left empty? 


  • Correct! The homes are there, but construction work is not fully finalized, as there are still pending sewage and road pavement works (as of the date of publishing this article). The plan was to relocate 600 families that were originally selected by Molham Team, half of which are orphans, to these homes. But eventually we preferred prioritizing families in a number of IDP camps that were the most severely affected by the storms, and postponing the relocation of the originally selected families for around 4 months. Meanwhile, we will be working on building new homes for those families through the funds raised in Until the Last Tent campaign.


What is the cost of each apartment, and what is its area? 

  • The cost of an apartment consisting of two bedrooms and a living room is $4,000.


❓ What are the specifications of the apartments?

  • The specifications of the apartments are in line with industry standards in Arab countries. Each apartment has natural light, ventilation, and is large enough for easy movement. It has a bathroom and kitchen. As for the architectural designs, the facade is free of protrusions.


❓Can I donate part of the cost of an apartment? Is it possible to document the apartment in honour of a deceased person? 

  • Yes! One donation share is $500, and a group of people can donate together to gather the price of a full apartment, or any amount; as every dollar goes a long way! As for dedicating an apartment in honour of a deceased person, a plate can be placed on the apartment's door to indicate that it was built in honour of someone.


❓Is the project considered Waqf (charitable endowment)? To whom do the units and land belong?

  • Answer: Yes! The project is considered Waqf (charitable endowment) that Molham Team operates for life for charitable purposes (housing displaced Syrian families). As for land ownership; it is vested in Molham Team after it is duly purchased from the owner. Beneficiary families have the right to use the property free of charge, as long as the relevant criteria remains applicable to them. Title deeds of the lands can be found at the land registry in the local councils of the administrative areas where the projects are located.


❓Are all of your shelter projects subject to Waqf ? Is it possible to transfer ownership of the units to beneficiary families?

  • All units are subject to the Waqf that is perpetually operated by Molham Team for charitable purposes. There are shelter projects implemented through some donors' Zakat Al-Mal donations, and for those, following careful observation of beneficiary families' adherence to ethical and moral conduct, ownership of units can be transferred to them and the transfer of title is recorded with the relevant local authorities.


❓ Can a donor get the information on the family's information who lives in the Waqf?

  • Yes! The donor has the right to know the family's details, check on them, and provide their needs from time to time.


❓What are the selection criteria for beneficiary families?

  • Priority is given to families of martyrs, orphans, female-headed households, people with special needs, and the injured.


❓What public facilities will serve the project?

  • A school, mosque, park, water well, medical centre and markets. You can make a donation towards these facilities, and it is counted as Sadaqah Jariyah (continuous charity) towards the families who benefit from the project.


❓What about the different prices of the housing unit, as announced in previous campaigns?

  • Since the start of our shelter projects, we have implemented several plans and designs. For example, the price of the housing unit in "1000 Housing Units" project was $250, and it was only built of concrete walls and a canvas roof. After that, we made progress by using precast reinforced concrete roofs in the Aziz Housing Complex. Moreover, story apartments were built in the Awtad-Molham joint housing project and in Molham Village, where the apartments in the latter were of special specifications suitable for the families' conditions. Therefore, prices varied depending on the nature of the project, its designs, in addition to the building materials, the nature of the land and the infrastructure.


Why is the apartment price different between Molham Team and other parties?

  • The main difference is in the infrastructure. The project land may be soil or rocks, and the groundwater level may differ from one area to another. What is worth noting also is the difference in the specifications of the apartments, such as building materials and cladding, which subsequently affect the building quality over time. We are always keen to provide our displaced people with safe homes that meet industry standards, at the lowest possible costs.
